The 75th Anniversary

NO sooner, did I wake up from the slumber and realized that it is the day of independence that is commemorated from latitude to the longitude of the country_ the 74th birthday of the nation_ I set aside, immediately thinking about the independence. The word simple meant liberty into my minds but, it was too little to be comprehended. I went out in the chase of finding what independence meant. I searched it out in my dict-box that gave me just the meaning of freedom, liberty, autonomy, home rule and self-reliance. But it also could not have quenched my thirst for what I had been looking for. I came across with a book and pinned hope that now I could have the meaning in its essence.

Well, after reading, I was done, be-cause, I could understand. Our independence does not resemble others, because, the objectives have not been yet achieved in its true meaning. The purpose that claimed the lives in tens of thousands till this day lags in accomplishment. The purpose of all those efforts and slaughters offered by the Muslim of the sub-continent to acquire a land where they could perform their religious moral imperatives and experiment the true ideology of Islam freely and without any sort of despotism. This land was acquired as a laboratory where we could experiment on Islamic principles, because, mere a piece of land was never destined.

The history of Islamic republic of Pakistan is squeaky that dates us back to the early eighth century, when a seventeen-year boy came in his juvenility in 712 named_ Muhamad-Bin-Qasim_ establishing a can-did Islamic rule. The territory remained under the influence of orthodox Muslims for more than one millennia till the war of independence 1857, that splintered it. East India company invaded and annexation of the sub-continent to the British Empire took place. That watershed event changed the fate.

A series of moments started to get away with the British realm. After a protracted marathon, never-ending tribulations, struggle and going through very tumultuous kind of events, Muslim finally fulfilled the dream of Iqbal, that was described in Allahabad Address. and subsequently, it was the same day 75 years ago on 14th of August, when a nation came into being as a sovereign state and the dream came into reality led by Quaid-e-Azam. That watershed event changed the fate of the Muslims of the subcontinent. This was a little glimpse of the historical backdrop of Pakistan.

There is a saying “a nation that forgets it history is bound to be in the cruel hands of fate”. Hence, history of a nation should not be forgotten. Anyhow, to get off into the real meaning of independence, we have to remember the core values of our ancestors, and founding fathers to drive the country in the same direction un-der the same principles. Whereupon we could have the independence in its essence.

Regrettably, we have encountered all type of extremism, terrorism, political turmoil, corruption and unrest that has divided us apart and hindered our progress. If we want to defeat all these sort of turmoil, then we have to stick together; we have to stand together; we have to be united; we have to focus on what unites us not on what sets us apart; on what we have in common; not on what makes us different. And this is the vision, the unifying vision in my view that can defeat every sort of extremism, whether political or religious, economic or social, domestic or foreign, violent or non-violent, that is how we should respond to this turmoil. We will be a thriving and flourished nation to abide by the same principle of parity, justice, tolerance, painstaking hard work, rule of law and the final submission to the one God. So work together for the prosperity of this country, for the fate of this country day in and day out. Work, work and work for Pakistan, because this is the homeland that gave us shelter, identity and we all hail to this soil. Thank you Pakistan (Shukira Pakistan).
